Local 1202 Enhanced Stewards' Training - BCGEU


IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL STEWARDS IN LOCAL 1202

The Union will be providing all stewards in this Local a day of training in the following subjects:

1.    The Grievance Procedure and The Role of the Steward

This session will review the grievance procedure with an emphasis on resolving issues at Step 1 and Step 2. The focus will be on problem solving, dealing with difficult managers/supervisors and how to promote the grievance discussion. This will be interactive and involve the stewards in problem solving and their past experiences.

2.    The doctrine of Progressive Discipline and using Wm. Scott and KVP to assist you in the grievance procedure

This session will talk about the governing principles of the progressive discipline process and the use of the William Scott case in the discipline issues and how you can use it in your analysis and in problem solving with both your member and the grievor.

3.    Common grievances and how to solve them

We will look at some of the more common grievance issues you run into.

DATE:           Thursday, May 25, 2017

TIME:            9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Please note the office does not open until 8:30 a.m.)

LOCATION:   BCGEU North Island Area Office
                     106-1650 Terminal Ave N, Nanaimo
                     (Please park in designated BCGEU parking spots.)

You will not lose any pay as we pay your wage for the day, and your lunch is covered as well as any mileage and/or hotel, meals or childcare you may incur. It doesn't matter if you're from Port Hardy or Nanaimo…..You are an important part of the Union and training is important to properly represent your members. We will ensure you incur no costs.
