Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Greetings and Solidarity.

We have held rallies in every community in the East Kootenays and stood side-by-side with our brothers and sisters in other unions - supporting them in their fight. As your Local Chair, I have been involved with a variety of events in this area and around the province.

In the Ministry of Human Resources we have watched offices close and amalgamate, for example, in Invermere, Fernie, Kimberley, Creston and Cranbrook. We have seen incredible staff cuts while we wade through the mounds of paperwork.

We wait with anticipation as the Ministry of Children and Family Development 'devolves'.

We pay more for our healthcare.

We pay more for our gas.

We pay more just to survive.

We debate, at great lengths, the injustices of the current government - from the mean spirited 'reforms' to the arrogant implementation of cuts in every public service in this province.

We are prepared to continue to fight these drastic cuts. We need to support the protests in the coming weeks and months to build our solidarity. Contact the BCGEU East Kootenay Area Office if you are interested in joining the growing voices of protest in this province and in the East Kootenays.
