Local 1201 Members at Telus Employer Solutions - Important Bargaining Update - BCGEU

Your Bargaining Committee met with the Employer this morning, May 9th. This notice is to let you know that we have reached an impasse and will now be seeking a strong strike vote to support us in our efforts to get a reasonable deal.

Wage increases initially tabled by the Employer on April 26, 2019 were unreasonably low: May 1, 2019 – $250 lump sum; 2020 – 1% ; 2021 – 1.25% and 2022 – 1.50%. Additional rollbacks were proposed to leave for medical and dental appointments and a 50% reduction to your special leave bank. We were hopeful for an offer more realistic and respectful of the work we do.

We were disappointed. While the rollbacks were removed, today the Employer tabled $900 lump sum for year 1 (non-cumulative) and an additional 0.5% during years two, three and four. We were clear that we are seeking a minimum 2% per year for our members.

This has been a very challenging round of negotiations. During negotiations, the Union tabled a number of proposals on the issues raised by all of you through your bargaining surveys. The employer was very resistant to these proposals, and the employer's original package included significant concessions on benefits and special leave.

Despite this, your Bargaining Committee worked hard to try to find common ground with the employer and reach a deal. Unfortunately your employer chose to not meet us at this reasonable middle ground. We are therefore asking for your support.

We have heard from you. You have told us that you expect fair and reasonable compensation and a supportive environment for the important work that you do.

We want to send a strong message to the Employer that we are united in our efforts for a fair deal. We are fighting for more than they are offering.

Your bargaining committee recommends you VOTE YES!!
