Since our last update in July, your 2019 Bargaining Committee has met with the employer twice in Victoria, for three days in September and our most recent session, October 21st to 23rd. Over the course of those discussions, we have made progress in areas such as hours of work, language clarity, and transparency regarding recruitment processes.
While your bargaining committee had hoped to table our monetary proposals by this point, we have encountered headwinds from the employer on a few key non-monetary proposals we had brought forward that address concerns you had identified to us in our original survey. In light of these challenges, we plan to host information sessions to connect with you directly and share our concerns and future steps for bargaining. These sessions will be scheduled prior to our next round of negotiations with the employer in December so stay tuned for the announcement of dates, times, and food offerings!
As we continue to work tirelessly through these negotiations, we still encourage you to reach out to your bargaining committee members if you have any suggestions, feedback or questions. It is important to continue to work together to support improvements in our careers and workplace.
Reminder: BCGEU members are getting a new Member ID card so make sure your mailing address is up to date! Go to www.bcgeu.ca/card-questions for details.
