Great news! In recognition of the changes to the federal Employment Insurance Act and the provincial Employment Standards Act, the BCGEU and Protrans have agreed to a Memorandum of Agreement which extends the length of leaves available to parents after the birth or adoption of their child. All parents with children born or adopted after December 3rd, 2017, will now be able to choose to take up to 78 weeks of total leave, rather than the previous 52. A copy of the MOA is available to you on the BCGEU website.
We are pleased that the parties came to a positive agreement on this very important issue. If you have any questions about this agreement, please speak to your shop steward.
In solidarity,
Megan McKinney
Staff Representative
