This is an update on the status of negotiations for renewal of the collective agreement between the BCGEU and Nanaimo Seniors Village.
The bargaining committee met for two full days of preparation on September 3 and 4, 2019. This included training in the process and pitfalls of bargaining, a thorough review of members' input from surveys, a clause-by-clause review of the entire collective agreement, and development of bargaining proposals.
The parties held an initial bargaining session on September 18, 2019. Both parties tabled their non-monetary proposal packages and gave a brief explanation for each proposal.
Two additional days of bargaining are scheduled for November 13 and 14, 2019. (Both parties were willing to meet again sooner but could not find earlier dates that would work.) Members can expect a further update on or after November 14.
In the meantime, the bargaining committee thanks members for their unity, support and patience through this process.
In solidarity,
Karen Dalton, Bargaining Committee Chair
Edith Eggimann, Bargaining Committee Member
Randi Halliday, Bargaining Committee Member
Ryan Stewart, Staff Representative, Negotiations
