Being a shop steward can be a very rewarding experience. Not only are you considered an equal with your employer when you represent members, you will also have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped a fellow employee and made a difference in someone's life.

Stewards also have access to a BCGEU Staff Representative who can answer your questions or listen to your concerns. If a shop steward requires representation at the worksite, a BCGEU Staff Representative will represent you.

You do not have to be an expert in collective agreement interpretation and you will always have the support of not only the Staff Representative assigned to your workplace, but of your Local 2001 Executive and existing stewards at the worksite. All will happily offer you assistance when and if you need it.

Full paid training is provided to new stewards and there are NO tests 

If you are interested in becoming a steward, please complete the attached nomination form, and submit it as instructed below. 

**Nominations close at midnight on May 1, 2019**

Nomination forms can be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 250-384-8060 by the deadline.

If more than two nominations are submitted, an election will be held within a week of the close of nominations.
