Prison Safety Now

Overcrowding. Double-bunking. Gang Violence. Inmates with addictions and mental health problems. Assaults on Officers. BC's prisons are out of control.

In 2001: a correctional officer worked on a living unit with 20 inmates.

Today: a correctional officer works alone on a living unit with up to 72 inmates.

Last year assaults on officers increased 39 per cent.

When their sentences are finished, these violent inmates will return to communities just like yours.
