What's in the Component 5 Agreement?

On November 13, BCGEU members of Component 5 ratified their tentative component agreement. Of the eligible members that voted, 81.6% voted in favour of ratifying.

Dear Component 5 members,

This round of bargaining, our Component 5 bargaining committee negotiated a number of changes that we feel will improve fairness in our worksites and open additional opportunities for members, including:

  • A streamlined process for converting auxiliaries to regular status in retail, including an expedited dispute process.
  • A clear process for statutory holiday scheduling in the Distribution Centres
  • A more transparent annual expression of interest process for store relief assignments to ensure more members have an opportunity to relieve.
  • More opportunity for training to deem members qualified/capable for relief assignments and classification seniority to be utilized in the assignment of relief assignments.
  • Improvements to the selection process for a Warehouse Worker 3 position, including an established eligibility list for future vacancies.
  • The option to turn down an offer of conversion to regular status.

The full set of details can be found in our component agreement Memorandum of Settlement.

Outside of the component agreement, we were able to negotiate a number of targeted wage increases for Component 5 members, see our webpage on targeted adjustments for details.

Voting on our component’s tentative agreement begins tomorrow — November 6 — and will be on the same ballot as the main agreement. Our component bargaining committee is recommending that you vote yes on our component agreement.

In solidarity,

Your Component 5 bargaining committee
