Nominations for

One Bargaining Committee Chairperson, One Bargaining Committee Member

And One Alternate to the Committee are now open.

Your collective agreement expires on April 30, 2019 and the Union is beginning preparations to conduct negotiations for a renewal agreement on your behalf. Therefore, a new bargaining committee must be elected to represent all BCGEU members of Sienna Senior Living Inc. (Mayfair Terrace). The Chairperson must be elected by membership vote and the remaining seats on the committee will be elected once that has happened.

Please note that if you wish to run for the Chairperson, and also to run as a committee member if unsuccessful you will need to submit a nomination form for both positions. You only need to submit one nomination form per position sought.

No previous experience in negotiations is required to be a member of the bargaining committee, but you must have a signed membership application card on file with the Union in order to run or vote in an election. As a bargaining committee member you will be expected to:

  • Attend caucus meetings and assist in the development of proposals for collective bargaining
  • Assist in gathering and distributing information from and to members at the worksite
  • Attend collective bargaining sessions with the Employer
  • Take notes at the bargaining table and provide copies of same to the Staff Representative at the conclusion of bargaining
  • Provide feedback and information to the Staff Representative during the bargaining process
  • Participate in discussions related to the Employer's proposals, and assist in developing counter proposals
  • Assist with ratification or other votes or meetings that may be held related to bargaining

Leave of absence is provided to members to allow attendance at all meetings without loss of pay or benefits.

In the event there are more nominations received than positions available a vote will be held.

Bulletins will be sent out via personal email, mail and posted in the worksite throughout the bargaining process. If you do not receive this bulletin via email and regular mail the Union does not have a current email or mailing address for you. To ensure that you receive information in a timely manner please ensure that the Union has your current personal contact information. You can update your information on-line by going to the BCGEU website:

  1. Go to https://my.bcgeu.ca/login and log in.
  2. In the upper left of your screen you will see a box with your name at the top. Click on the information you wish to update.
  3. Enter the correct information and click "save"

Also, if you have not signed a union membership card please contact one of your Shop Stewards to sign one.
