BCGEU president Stephanie Smith will be making a presentation to the Provincial Health Services Authority's (PHSA) board of directors on Thursday, June 29th. President Smith has been working closely with BCGEU members at Forensic Psychiatric Hospital (FPH) to identify immediate actions that must be taken in order to ensure a safer environment for staff and patients alike.
Your union has been raising the issue of ongoing violence at FPH for years, and will once again urge the PHSA to take specific, measurable actions to improve the safety of this facility. All workers in BC have the right to go home to their families at the end of their work shifts, free from physical or psychological harm.
Remember, your union encourages workers to refuse any work that is unsafe or puts you at risk. Call the RCMP or relevant law enforcement officers if you witness a breach of the criminal code, including physical and verbal assaults or the utterance of threats.
