The following is an update from the BCGEU Component 5 Campaigns Committee, an appointed group of BCGEU members working at BCLDB warehouses and retail stores around the province.
Our fight for essential pay continues – and since Blain says government has the power to make it happen, let’s call on the Minister of Finance to do just that.
>> Complete this form now to tell Selina Robinson to authorize Blain and the BCLDB to provide financial compensation to workers in recognition of our essential work during the pandemic.<<
Be sure to forward this email to your co-workers, family and friends. And please note that some of us workers will be making calls and sending texts to BCLDB workers over the next couple weeks to ensure we’re all aware of this tool and how to help in our collective fight for essential pay.
Also, we encourage you to continue sharing our button on social media and tweeting your support for essential pay here. Remember: When sharing your own experiences on social media about working through the pandemic, use the campaign hashtags (#essentialBCLDB) so we can all track and amplify each other!
Finally – just because we’re asking Minister Robinson to authorize Blain to provide essential pay doesn’t mean we’re easing up on Blain. We will continue to challenge his belief that the province’s former Temporary Pandemic Pay (TPP) program is the only means to acknowledge BCLDB workers, no matter how many times he claims this, and that he does, in fact, have options and power to provide workers with essential pay – especially because significant profits have been made during the pandemic from workers’ extraordinary efforts. Standby for ways we can continue to pressure him together.
If you have any questions, please respond to this email.
In solidarity,
Component 5 Campaigns Committee
