Re:     Tentative Agreement Reached - AMENDED

Your Bargaining Committee is pleased to announce that we were able to conclude a tentative agreement with your employer on November 16, 2016 and will be recommending ratification.

Highlights of the new agreement include:

  • Four year term (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018)
  • General Wage Increase for all employees of 1.5% retroactive to July 1, 2016
  • General Wage Increase for all employees of 1.5% on July 1, 2017
  • Signing Bonus for all active regular employees of $3,000 payable upon ratification
  • Signing Bonus for all active casual employees of $1,000 payable upon ratification
  • Improvement to the Health & Welfare cost-share provisions for long-term regular employees
  • Agreement that the Union and the employer will jointly lobby government to increase funding to NEC and the ability to negotiate how that money is allocated if received
  • Clarification and improvements on vacation entitlement for new regular employees

The full settlement package and a discussion about the changes will be made available to all members at the ratification meeting. Ratification meetings and the ratification vote will be held on the following days:

Dates:         Monday, November 21 & Tuesday, November 22
Time:          12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location:      NEC Native Education College, Room 210

All members are strongly encouraged to attend one of the meetings for the details of the agreement. Voting will occur at any time following the meetings until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30. Your Bargaining Committee is recommending that you vote "yes" to this agreement.

Your Bargaining Committee wants to thank all of you for your support during this difficult round of bargaining. We do not believe that we would have been able to conclude an agreement without your strong showing of support.

In solidarity,

Ron Wallace, Bargaining Committee
John Pateman, Bargaining Committee
Sheila Puga, Regional Coordinator
