Your bargaining committee is pleased to announce we have come to a tentative agreement with BGIS with full support from CBRE. As you know, there is a transition occurring in early 2020 wherein the future employer (CBRE) will take over the contract from BGIS. The Union and your bargaining committee have agreed to a rollover collective agreement. This is intended to give wage increases to all employees while keeping and protecting the existing language in your collective agreement. This allows continuity and stability for workers while BGIS continues to be your employer and also stability for workers when CBRE takes over.
Our bargaining committee was intent on ensuring members received wage increases. We also felt new relationships needed to be built with the future employer, and while there have been discussions between CBRE and the BCGEU, they are not in a control position at the moment. Therefore, a 2 year rollover agreement was determined to be the best course of action. This basically provides 1 year from BGIS and 1 year from CBRE. Once the new contractor is in place, we can move to a more typical bargaining arrangement and negotiate all terms of the collective agreement with CBRE as required.
Upon negotiations with your employer and CBRE, we secured tentative agreement of 2% retroactive to April 1st, 2019 and a further 2% effective April 1st, 2020. This wage settlement is competitive with recent public sector agreements affecting well over 100,000 employees. While we know some language issues need to be addressed, a short delay was acceptable in this circumstance. Please note the expiry of the 2 year collective agreement will be March 31st, 2021.
Ratification and information sessions will be held during the week of August 12th. A subsequent bulletin will be sent advising of these times and locations. A bargaining committee member and staff representative will attend these meeting and explain the settlement along with answering any questions you may have. There will also be a call in option.
Thank you for your support during this time. The BCGEU is very pleased we could ensure full successorship for our workers at BGIS which provides incredible job security. This tentative agreement further ensures and completes that action.
Our bargaining committee fully supports the tentative agreement and recommends you vote "yes".
