All members of the BCGEU at The Salvation Army – Comox Valley certification are encouraged to attend a membership meeting on Friday January 12 at 9:00 a.m. at Best Western The Westerly Hotel, 1590 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay. The meeting will be for BCGEU members only, but any employee in the certification who has not yet joined the Union will be given the opportunity to join before the meeting.
 
The meeting will be an opportunity for members to learn more about the way members receive services from the BCGEU, how members can become more involved in the Union, opportunities for training about Union issues, etc.
 
It will also be an opportunity to discuss topics that members see as being important regarding negotiating a first collective agreement with your employer. Members will be provided with a paper survey to help them identify topics and priorities. We want to provide members with the opportunity to discuss bargaining issues as well, so there will be opportunities for that discussion.
 
Members will learn about how the membership at The Salvation Army – Comox Valley certification will elect a bargaining committee, how a bargaining committee operates, and other topics related to contract negotiations.
 
This meeting will be informal. Ernie Gorrie, the staff representative will provide overviews, but there will be lots of opportunities for members to ask questions and learn about the topics important to them.
