Update on Bargaining for VSA Highway Maintenance (Service Area 14) - BCGEU

Ratification meetings for the VSA membership were held on March 6th and 7th. The deal was rejected by the membership.

The Union and the Employer have agreed to return to the table to seek a new agreement. Please be aware that agreements made at the provincial table as part of the Provincial Memorandum of Agreement (PMOA) cannot be changed. Wages and pension are part of the PMOA. Your local Bargaining Committee will be seeking gains for the membership in a number of areas that are not covered by the PMOA. If we are able to achieve further gains, we will bring the new deal before the membership for a ratification vote.

Your area must have a ratified deal by April 30th in order for the government to include successorship in the Request For Proposal (RFP or bid) that will go out to prospective new Area 14 Employers. If a deal is not ratified by the membership, the RFP will go out without a successorship clause. That means that, if a new Employer is the successful bidder, there will be no collective agreement in place and the workplace will become non-union at the end of the current agreement.

18 areas have ratified deals and will have successorship included when the government puts out their RFP.

In solidarity
