Vancouver Talmud Torah School BCGEU Stewards needed – You are the Union! - BCGEU

Further to the union worksite meeting on May 15 last, the Union is opening nominations for Union stewards at Vancouver Talmud Torah School.

The Union is only as strong as VTT members decide. You need to know your rights, and stand up for them.

Stewards are the eyes and ears of the Union at the worksite. They are workplace leaders.

Stewards know and help enforce the collective agreement and assist, support and help ensure that members' rights are protected.

We do not expect you to have prior experience or knowledge. We just need members who are motivated to make a difference in the workplace. The BCGEU provides free training. After training, stewards are mentored by the BCGEU staff representative.

Stewards may deal with grievances and complaints at the worksite, but they also are involved in assisting members in:• understanding their rights under the Collective Agreement
• listening to members' issues
• referring issues to the Labour Management Committee or Occupational Health and Safety Committees
• ensuring the Union bulletin board is kept up-to-date; and much more!

If you are interested in becoming a steward at your worksite, please fill out the included nomination form and return it to my attention via fax 604-215-1410 or email back to [email protected] by Friday, June 22, 2018.

In solidarity,

Oliver Rohlfs
Staff Representative
