Component Bargaining Update - BCGEU

On April 30, 2010, Correctional and Sheriff Services Component members voted to reject the recommended tentative agreement on a new Component agreement.

Your Component negotiating committee subsequently met with the employer over the summer in an attempt to secure key changes to our agreement that would allow us to put an improved agreement to another ratification vote.

At our last meeting with the employer on September 2, 2010, the employer representatives were unable to make any new substantive offers for Adult and Youth Custody or Sheriff Services.  We were advised that the employer was not interested in further meetings with the union for collective agreement negotiations.

Your Component executive has carefully reviewed all our options and at the Component executive meeting on October 8, 2010, voted unanimously to advise the employer that we will continue to work under the terms of the 14th Component Agreement until the expiration of the 15th Master Agreement on April 30, 2012.

We thank you for your support during this difficult period of negotiations.
