Cost savings, cuts canvassed at corrections labour-management meeting - BCGEU

How to address financial pressures and generate cost savings mandated by the provincial government were among a number of issues raised at the regular labour-management meeting involving your union representatives and officials from the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General.

At the mid-June meeting a range of suggestions were raised, from travel issues to expanding recycling to reduce garbage costs. The employer also said they will look at a variety of other money-saving measures including cutting back on personal care items for inmates like toilet paper.

Other issues canvassed included:
• Employee performance and development plan (EPDP);
• Work environment survey;
• Opportunities and skills database; and
• Overcrowding and gangs.
