Deputy Sheriffs, Conservation Officers and pension regulations - BCGEU

Agreement was reached during the recent round of public service bargaining that Deputy Sheriffs and Conservation Officers are qualified for the designation of "public safety occupation" as "police". Representations to confirm this have been made to the federal authorities. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulates this provision of the Income Tax Act

.

The B.C. Pension Corporation is assisting with this representation to federal authorities at the request of the Public Service Pension Plan. We anticipate that the CRA will concur.

Once confirmed, the union and the employer will still need to reach agreement on how to fund the application of the Normal Retirement Age 60 Rule to replace the Normal Retirement Age 65 Rule which currently applies.
