Union Meets with Ministry to discuss VYCC Issues - BCGEU

Last week more than forty staff from the Victoria Youth Custody Centre attended an emergency meeting at the union hall to discuss the ongoing issues that continue to plague that work site.

Dean Purdy, Chair of the Corrections and Sheriff Services component informed staff on what steps the union was taking to deal with the issues that surround their work site.

As one of the steps to address the many problems at your work site, a subcommittee of the Ministry Article 29 joint committee met to discuss the concerns raised by our members.

The meeting was attended by senior Ministry and centre management representatives. Component 1 chairperson Dean Purdy and staff representatives Jenny Ewing and Mike Eso represented the union.

The meeting was a frank and open opportunity to discuss many of the issues you have raised. The Union and Ministry have agreed to work together to begin to try and address your concerns. We will report back as discussions evolve.

On a related matter, BCGEU president Darryl Walker will be making a worksite visit to the Centre today, Wednesday, March 25 to meet with members.
