District of Sechelt Bargaining Update

To:    All BCGEU Members at District of Sechelt
Re:    Bargaining Update

The Union bargaining committee had three days of bargaining with the Employer on September 19, 20 & 22, 2016. We had positive dialogue and signed a number of proposals and counter proposals on the first two days.

We were hopeful that we may conclude bargaining on the third day; however, at the end of the session, the parties remained too far apart on a number of key items, including wages, benefits and improved language.

As the Employer's lead negotiator is leaving the District of Sechelt in the near future, it remains a strong interest to complete the bargaining before he leaves. Therefore, the parties have made a tentative agreement to convene the week of October 3, 2016. A specific date has not been confirmed.

We thank you for your patience as we progress through the bargaining process.

In solidarity

Les Dornbierer, Bargaining Committee Member
