As you are aware, the election of your bargaining committee for the upcoming negotiations for a renewal Collective Agreement is underway. Once the nomination period has ended we will let you know the outcome and, if needed, will conduct a vote.
Although the employer is aware of the process we need to follow in order to be in a position to negotiate a fair and reasonable renewal agreement they contacted the Union recently and advised us that the Board of Directors intends to contract out your work unless a renewal Collective Agreement is reached by December 31, 2016 (the expiry date of your current agreement). It is not possible for us to meet this deadline as we may not have a committee in place until mid-December and the committee will need to meet in advance of bargaining to develop our proposal package.
In order to avoid the contracting out of your work the Union is asking that you agree to an extension of the current agreement for a period of six months or until a renewal Collective Agreement is ratified, whichever comes first. Therefore, a vote has been scheduled to give you the opportunity to vote on the proposed extension. The vote will be held:
