Lake City/Cascades Casinos - Election of Bargaining Unit Chair - BCGEU

An impressive response for calls to nominate a BCGEU Lake City/Cascades Casinos Bargaining Unit Chair and Bargaining Committee members has resulted in the need to conduct elections to determine who will sit on the committee when talks begin to negotiate your new collective agreement.

The first step in the election process is to determine who will occupy the important position of Bargaining Unit Chair. Four members have accepted nomination for this position and they are as follows:

Nominated for the position of Bargaining Unit Chair

Gayle Furgala/Kelowna

Mike Schmidt/Kamloops

Peter Burton/Vernon

Mike Janzen/Kamloops

BCGEU members employed at Lake City/Cascades Casinos, regardless of work location will receive a ballot package specific to the position of Bargaining Unit Chair. Again, regardless of your worksite, voting for the position of Bargaining Unit Chair is open to all Lake City/Cascades Casinos, and all are encouraged to cast a ballot. Remember, you can vote for any one candidate, and they do not have to be from your worksite.

Balloting packages are being mailed to all members for whom the Union has current mailing addresses.

Mark your ballot clearly and place it inside the small brown coin envelope. Any ballot with more than one person selected will be considered to be spoiled and not counted. Place the coin envelope in the declaration ballot envelope and seal it. Fill out the information on the declaration ballot envelope and return it to the Union in the enclosed self-addressed postage paid envelope.

Your ballot must be received no later than Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Once a person has been confirmed as a member of the Union, the coin envelopes will be removed from the declaration envelopes. Only when all coin envelopes have been removed will they be opened and counted. This is to ensure that your vote remains confidential and no one can tell how you voted.

If you do not receive a ballot through the mail, this likely means that we do not have your mailing address on file. In situations like this, you will need to contact your BCGEU area office to obtain a ballot.

Members will also be able to cast ballots at membership meetings at each casino, dates and times to be scheduled in the near future. When confirmed, a bulletin will be sent out to you.

Biographies from the candidates who submitted them will be available for review during the membership meetings at the casinos, as well as on the BCGEU website.

To help ensure you receive a ballot and a copy of bargaining updates, please provide a personal email address to the BCGEU at http://www.bcgeu.ca/update. If we already have an email address on file for you and you wish to edit or update any of your existing contact information, you can use the same form.

Once a Bargaining Unit Chair has been elected, another election will take place to determine the members who will sit with the Chair on the committee. Full details of that election will be forthcoming.

In solidarity
