The union has received notification that effective May 30, 2019, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital will appoint the Forensic Security Officers (FSO) as Special Provincial Constables (SPCs) inside the hospital.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry and Forensic Psychiatric Services means that a Special Provincial Constables program will be established to grant limited constable authority to the Forensic Security Officers who require this authority.

The union wants to recognize that these changes were won by the leadership of members who have refused unsafe work and fought for many years against violence and problems of safety in the workplace.
