Union Sets Date For Strike Vote at Valleyhaven Retirement Community Ltd. - BCGEU

Your bargaining committee met with the Employer on May 3rd to receive their response to our monetary demands.
Wage increases initially tabled by the Employer on April 5th were unreasonably low: at ratification – 1% ; 2019 – 1% ; 2020 – 1.25%. We were hopeful for an offer more realistic and respectful of the work we do.

Unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. The Employer tabled an additional .25% during years one and two, which equates to an additional .04¢ on an hourly rate of $15.00/hour. There is no retroactivity for 2018. There are no improvements for the money saved by the Employer on MSP premiums.

We have heard from our members. You have told us that workload continues to be heavy at Valleyhaven, and the paycheque doesn't go as far as it used to. We are looking for a fair & reasonable settlement, but we want more than 1.25% and we want some other improvements in the compensation package.

Your bargaining committee voted unanimously to take a strike vote to show the Employer we are strong, and we are sticking together. We are fighting for more than they are offering.

Your bargaining committee recommends you VOTE YES!!
