Well-Being Services (Auburn Seniors Village) - Strike Notice Served; Bargaining Continues - BCGEU

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, your Union served 72 hours' strike notice on the Employer. The Auburn bargaining unit will be in a legal position to strike beginning at approximately 10am on Friday, March 22, 2019.

Your Bargaining Committee then tabled a complete package that reflected the clear mandate you gave us when you rejected the previous tentative agreement. While we were disappointed that the Employer was unable or unwilling to respond to our package on the 19th, we were assured that its response will come sometime this week.

Your Bargaining Committee emphasized that members would prefer a negotiated settlement to a strike. It is now up to the Employer to decide if it will agree to fair wages and benefits so a strike may be avoided.

While you will be in a legal strike position as of Friday, we have not yet decided when to withdraw services. Please continue reporting to work as you usually would until you are advised otherwise.

You can expect a further update once your Bargaining Committee has received the Employer's response to our latest proposal package.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with a member of your Bargaining Committee.

In solidarity,

Karen Henke, Bargaining Committee Member
Raymond Matte, Bargaining Committee Member
Ryan Stewart, Staff Representative - Negotiations
