Component 99 primarily includes members who work for private corporations, contracted by the government to maintain provincial highways and bridges. The component also includes members employed by the Canada Line, small private ferries, some municipal governments and other private companies connected with technical services.

BC BUDGET: NDP hope to nix court delays with $15 million cash influx - BCGEU

Multi-year court delays could be done as the government pledges $15 million to hire more sheriffs and admin staff in the 2018 budget. The province has struggled with a sheriff shortage for years and the B.C. B.C. government hopes $15 million for more sheriffs will address court delays...

In a $55-billion budget, $5 million may not look like much.  But the B.C. government is hoping the infusion of that amount every year for three years will go a long way toward addressing wait times in courthouses, by increasing the number of court sheriffs and staffing of the Court Services Branch.    Read more... Correctional officer “viciously assaulted” at Okanagan Correctional Centre - ...

An assault at the Okanagan Correctional Centre (OCC) on Tuesday has left an officer in recovery. The correctional officer was working in a living unit at the prison, conducting a visual check of the cells, when he was attacked by an inmate, said Dean Purdy, Vice President of Corrections and Sheriffs Services for the B.C. Officer beaten badly at jail - BCGEU

A correctional officer at the Okanagan Correctional Centre near Oliver is recovering after being violently assaulted by an inmate on Tuesday.
